LOWVELD LUMBER

FOUNDED IN 1940

About Us

Lowveld Lumber had its origins in the institutions and business practices proudly founded in 1940 by John Edward Thorpe.

John Edward Thorpe, affectionately known as “Eddie”, was a father and grandfather to the current family members involved in the business operations and running of Lowveld Lumber.

In the early 1940’s, Eddie Thorpe opened a sawmill at the Railway Station in White River.  It was soon thereafter, that he opened another sawmill on the Queens River in the Nelshoogte plantation in Barberton.

Today, the Thorpes are one of the oldest and most experienced families in the South African Timber Industry.

Eddie built his very successful business with one simple philosophy – “Always work hard, never compromise on quality or service, and most importantly, always keep one step ahead of your rivals”.

It was with this same philosophy in mind, that Lowveld Lumber & Pallet (Pty) Ltd was founded on, in 1991. Over the past 28 years, Lowveld Lumber has become a major supplier of Timber, Pallets and Boxes to a multitude of industries, most notably supplying fruit bins to the fruit industry.

In 2005,  a Lowveld Lumber Warehouse was opened and a sub-section of the company –  Lowveld Doors was started. The 6000m2 warehouse enhanced our client offering as we could now offer a range of timber related products to the Wholesale Timber and Building Material Industry.

Lowveld Lumber has gone from strength to strength and will continuously strive to live up to “Eddie’s philosophy” to provide superb quality, a competitive range and outstanding value and service to all our customers.
